[Notes] Camera and Video Taking & Editing
Basics
-
NLE (Non-linear editing): “non-linear” only refers to the ability to freely move one piece of film/footage to the back or front of your other footage. NLE softwares are mainstream like Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.
-
Hue: pure color without speaking of lightness, saturation, or brightness.
-
Saturation: the intensity of a color, ranging from pure color (saturation=1) to gray (saturation=0).
-
Coloring correction/grading:
- White balance: to shift color cast of the video to make the whole scene look warmer or cooler (by adjusting color temperature in blue-amber axis, or tint in green-magenta axis)
- Brightness/Exposure: to adjust the overall brightness of the video. Exposure has a heavier bias to highlight tones, while Brightness has no bias and affects all tones equally
- Sharpening: is a color correction trick to make the video look sharper. It is done by increasing the contrast of certain edge pixels.
